Congratulations to Christopher Patton, whose book of poetry, Ox, is a finalist for the BC Book Prizes' Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. The winners will be announced at the BC Book Prize Gala on April 26.

Montreal launch of A Dream of Birds
Seymour Mayne and B.Glen Rotchin, both Vehicule-published writers, will launch their joint work of poetry, A Dream of Birds, at the Montreal Jewish Library (5151 Cote-Ste-Catherine) on Sunday, April 6, at 7:30 pm. Robert Weaver: 1921-2008
We bid farewell to a great champion of Canadian literature – radio producer, anthologist, and mentor Robert Weaver, who passed away on Saturday, January 26. Elaine Kalman Naves' biography on Rober Weaver is Robert Weaver: Godfather of Canadian Literature.

Jaspreet Singh searches for the soul of Calgary
CBC Radio One in Calgary is featuring Jaspreet Singh (auhor of Seventeen Tomatoes and the upcoming novel Chef). The radio show The Eyeopener will be broadcasting several episodes of Singh's search for the soul of Calgary. Listen to the episodes here.


Green City Celebrated by Globe & Mail
Mary Soderstrom's Green City: People, Nature & Urban Places, an eloquent study of the history of urban green spaces, was chosen by the Globe & Mail as one of their Top 100 Picks of 2007.


David Solway's Reaching for Clear winner of A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry
Congratulations to David Solway whose latest book of poetry, Reaching for Clear: The Poetry of Rhys Savarin, has won the 2007 A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry, sponsored by the Quebec Writers' Federation.

Anita Lahey's Out to Dry in Cape Breton finalist for Ottawa Book Award
Congratulations to Anita Lahey, whose book of poetry, Out to Dry in Cape Breton, was shortlisted for the Ottawa Book Awards. Out to Dry in Cape Breton was previously shortlisted for this year's Trillium Book Award for Poetry.

Cover Designer David Drummond recognized by AIGA
Last year, David Drummond's cover for B. Glen Rotchin’s The Rent Collector was chosen as one of the best 50 book covers of the year by the American Institute of Graphic Arts. And this year the AIGA awarded the same honour to the cover of the Nicholas Maes novel, Dead Man’s Float. Both titles are in the Esplanade fiction series.

Patrick Warner's Three, there wins E.J. Pratt Poetry Award

As part of our 35th anniversary celebrations, fiction editor Andrew Steinmetz hosts the launching of three titles in his Esplanade Books fiction series at the Blue Metropolis festival. Art Corriveau (Blood Pudding), Hans-Jurgen Greif (Orfeo, translated from French by Fred. A. Reed), and Jaspreet Singh (Chef) will each be reading from their books. The launch will take place in the Les Courants room at 7 pm.

Jaspreet Singh will also be participating on a panel discussion entitled "Road to India" on Saturday, May 3, at 12 noon in the Régence A room; and attending a reading of his play Elephants, hosted by Guy Sprung of Infinithéâtre, on Saturday, May 3, at 8:30 pm, in the St-Laurent room.
